Dear beloved sisters,
We are all grateful to the former President Agnes and her team for successfully organizing a 30th anniversary AGM. It was such a tremendous memorable event. As I shoulder on the president’s role, I am feeling quite scared. I hope all the sisters can help me and the new team, to shoulder on the work of the coming year, and progress onward into a new era for our NATWA.
This year's theme is "Embrace technology, Enrich life." Driven by the rapid development of digital technology, the living environment of people in modern days are surrounded by many electronic products. As these products gradually integrate into our daily lives, they form an inseparable relationship with everything we do. Technology is now an essential part of modern life. I would like to use this theme, to share, learn, and familiarize us with the technology products we have, and utilize their capabilities fully.
Almost everyone of us has a smart phone on their hands, such as an iPhone or Android Phone. At the Mid-year Conference and Leadership Training, and the AGM, we hope everyone can share and use apps to interact at different levels. We can also learn apps that relate to our daily lives, and add some fun to what we do. We can also use software suitable for general public that will improve and simplify the various administrative undertaking for our NATWA. When we can improve the process and allow Electronic voting to replace snail mail voting, issue donation receipts electronically, and process online registrations, these will allow the sister directors who will take over the new year’s duties, to handle these responsibilities more efficiently.
The upcoming 2018 Mid-year Conference and Leadership Training will be hosted at a hotel near the Toronto airport, followed by one night and two days of tour. Please note that this year’s Mid-Year Conference will start registration on 10/19, Friday at 3pm, different than other years which started on Thursday afternoon. This small change takes into account that this year’s World Federation of Taiwanese Association conference and tours are held in Japan, with dates close to our own conference. For those sisters who are attending WFTA, hopefully our dates will make it a little easier, and less crowded for our travel. Our NATWA tour going to Niagara Falls on a Monday, will be better than a (more congested) Sunday. This will be followed by tours within Toronto on Tuesday.
The 31st annual conference next year will be held at a hotel near the Detroit airport. There will be three and a half days of post-conference tour. The weather in Detroit in the third week of April is usually still a bit cold. Flowers is not blooming yet and trees are not budding yet. As a result, we will tour by going south along I-75. We plan to visit the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Ohio State, then use Cincinnati as a base. On day 2 we will go to Kentucky\ Louisville to visit the Kentucky Derby Museum, followed by the Mammoth Cave National Park. This is the longest stalactite cave in the world. There we will join two tours -- Frozen Niagara, and a Historic Tour. On day 3, we return to Detroit and visit the Ford assembly plant in the afternoon, then to the airport. We look forward to meeting all of you again! Please reserve the third weekend of April, to come together for our 31st annual meeting. 2019 Motown Detroit welcomes you!
