Dear NATWA Sisters,

2020-2021 President

Dear Sisters,

I didn’t expect to become NATWA’s 33rd president under these circumstances without a convention nor traditional handover. This is all because we are in the midst of this Wuhan Coronavirus pandemic. These past days, Jacy and I have faced many challenges. We listened to our sisters’ suggestions, tried different ideas, and learned new skills. We used surveys, e-voting, and virtual meetings to accomplish our tasks on time. This has been a big challenge, and I would like to give Jacy and her team a great round of applause.

This year's theme is "Multicultural, Fun Life". If you read it in Taiwanese "To-goân bûn-hòa , Chhù-bī seng-oa̍h", it rhymes!

Taiwan has always been a multicultural country, starting from Indigenous peoples to Pingpu, from Spain and the Netherlands to Japan and China, and now many new residents from different countries. These foreign nations enrich Taiwan's culture and make our lives more abundant. It is the same in North America, where immigrants come with different nations and backgrounds in each era. These immigrants preserve their traditional cultures and proudly share them with their communities. Moreover, our sisters love travelling, absorbing new knowledge, and exploring different life and cultural experiences. Culture is a way of life. We appreciate differences and absorb diversity. Multicultural experiences make life joyful! We are getting older, and after this Wuhan Coronavirus pandemic, we need to just relax and enjoy our lives!

The mid-year meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn Houston Intercontinental Airport Hotel from October 15 -19, 2020. We hope that the outbreak will be over by then and that our sisters can get together to share stories, to talk about NATWA, and to discuss how to face this new era and its new technological challenges. After the meeting, there is a two-day city tour where we will learn more about Houston and visit the NASA Johnson Space Center.

The April 2021 convention will be held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. All sisters are welcome to attend! After skipping a year, our sisters would cherish the moments we can spend together. The Toronto team is working hard to plan the annual meeting. The itinerary planning of the post-conference tour is underway and will include Niagara Falls, Toronto, Kingston, the Thousand Islands, and Ottawa.

Finally, I hope everyone stays safe and healthy!
