2010 - 2011 Scholarship Winner - Jennifer L Unceford

A letter from this year's scholarship recipient:

Hello, my name is Jennifer L Unceford and I am a recent graduate of Metro Academic and Classical High School. I was honored as the Valedictorian of the Class of 2011 and while I was at Metro I was an active member of the Dance Company, Student Council, Girls Tennis Team, Debate Team, Interact Club and the Future Business Leaders of America. I come from a large family, my mother has eight daughters, and I spent my childhood singing in the church choir and later with my sisters in a gospel singing group. Even though my parents kept my sisters and I involved in the church, while growing up, I was always aware of the prevalence of teen pregnancy in my family. Forthis reason, I was always driven to succeed academically, while maintaining my creative outlets through vocal music and dance.

Now that I am continuing my education at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, I am excited to explore my academic interests in Political Science, the Social Sciences, and Spanish. While at Yale Univeristy, I definitely plan to study abroad in a Spanish speaking country to broaden my horizons by having an internationallearning experience. After undergraduate school, I hope to attend law school for a career as a lawyer and possibly as a politican. I appreciate the support that NATWA has provided me with this generous scholorship and I promise to continue to value my education.
